8 steps For Healthy and Happy Skin

Hydration

We know it’s an obvious one, but it’s obvious for a reason! Skin tissue requires moisture. This improves elasticity, appearance and will slow the signs of ageing. It will also help reduce symptoms of skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, where dry skin can be an aggravating factor. Drinking around 8 glasses of water a day is recommended (unless you’re specifically told not to do so by your Doctor), so find a way to make it work for you. Try mixing sugar-free diluting juice with soda water as an alternative to fizzy drinks.

Sun Protection

Sunscreens with factor 30 or above should be used before sun exposure. Although here in Scotland it’s rarely warm and sunny, it’s important to remember that we still need to protect ourselves from UV rays. We all know to re-apply every couple of hours and after swimming, but we also need to re-apply if exercising and sweating. It should be applied evenly and generously over the skin for maximum effect. Our luxury skincare range includes a tinted and non-tinted SPF 50 sunscreen that also contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties as well as high protection against UVB and UVA radiation.

Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise daily

Find products that work for you!  One size does not fit all but sometimes it’s hard to know what your skin wants, and this can change over time. If products that used to work for you are now beginning to aggravate your skin, it’s time to throw them out, re-assess and change it up! Our skincare range features a moisturiser designed for sensitive and reactive skin prone to dryness, itchiness or burning and is clinically proven to soothe and moisturise sensitive skin.

Make-Up Lovers

The skin around the eyes is thinner and more likely to crease, pulling or tugging this area with fingers or brushes will reduce elasticity and increase the chance of fine lines over time. Soft brushes should be used around the eyes where possible. Also, no matter what, always remove your makeup before bed! Products similar to Micellar water are a good alternative to makeup wipes and reduces the need to pull at the face. As part of our skincare range we have a fantastic oxygen infused multitasking cleanser that refreshes skin, removes make-up and dead skin cells for brighter looking complexion.

Shaving

Replace your razors regularly to keep them sharp and store them properly to avoid rust or bacteria! Before shaving, shower or use hot water to open your pores and soften the hair. Go with the grain and then against it if you wish but carefully, as this can cause ingrown hairs. Use shaving products suitable for your skin type, and pat dry the face with a clean towel before moisturising.

Diet

A healthy, balanced diet is essential for happy, glowing skin! Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants promote skin development and tone. Foods rich in Vitamin C such as citrus, broccoli, kiwi and sweet potato help produce and store collagen! Vitamin E found in avocado, hazelnuts and pine nuts prevents cell damage.

Sponges and Tools

Ramer sponges are great for a soft facial cloth, they mould to your face as you wash without pulling at the skin. They can be used in the shower for the body also. Wash sponges and cloths regularly to prevent acne-causing bacteria. Be wary of some facial scrubs and exfoliating tools, some of these are too hard and will aggravate sensitive skin

Understanding your Genetics

Despite the advice we regularly hear, sometimes a ‘one size fits all’ doesn’t work as well in some people as it does in others. This may be down to differences in how our genetics influence our gut, handling of nutrients, fats and collagen. A good example of this is how the same exercise routine can affect people very differently, or when comparing differences in how our skin ages. Our REVIV Lifestyle Genetics products can help you unlock your genetic ‘code book’ to fine tune your nutrition regime, dietary habits and understand your skin’s collagen handling, which translates into how fast your skin ages. Far from a ‘home test kit’, the REVIV team provide a thorough analysis of your results alongside bespoke, Specialist-guided lifestyle advice - based on your unique genetics! Remember…

The key with skincare is consistency. Nurture it daily and your skin will thank you for it, and if something isn’t working for you, get rid of it or change it!
